Is it possible to withdraw money from the card, knowing only its number. Fraudsters withdrew money from the card through a mobile bank how to return Fraudsters wanted to withdraw money but the bank blocked

Keeping money in Sberbank seems to be the most reliable option, while the Central Bank closes several banks every day. The Green Elephant will certainly not lose his license. But often the Green Elephant turns out to be more dangerous than the Green Snake, and his clients are left with zeroed accounts. If a bank's license is revoked, you get up to 1.4 million from the DIA, if fraudsters withdraw money from your Sberbank accounts, the chances are 50/50.

Grandpa's pension was taken off before he received debit card, and a young mother who sold a stroller on Avito had all the money withdrawn from her deposit. In times of crisis, the theft of money from the accounts of Sberbank takes on a massive character. Let's see how money is most often withdrawn, who is to blame for this - Sberbank, customers or cunning scammers. What you need to do in order not to become a victim of intruders, as well as where to run if money is rapidly leaving your account.

Skimming - everything is more sophisticated

Skimmers are readers that scammers install on ATMs in order to create a duplicate card and withdraw money from it. In addition to a duplicate magnetic strip, scammers seek to get a PIN code, most often with the help of a microscopic camera. However, even without a PIN code, card data can be used to withdraw funds from it.

"I was at work when I received a message that my Visa cards. I immediately called Sberbank and they told me that the card was blocked due to possible fraudulent activities. Of course, I went to the bank, wrote an application for reissue and calmed down.About disappearance Money I found out 2 days later, when I discovered that a significant amount of 149,000 rubles appeared on the Momentum card, which I managed to withdraw, the scammers closed the deposit on the passbook, while Sberbank withdrew its commission of 9434.62 for early termination of the Manage deposit agreement, and transferred 413,286.44 to the Momentum card, the scammers withdrew 5 times 3,000 rubles, then 100,000 rubles, 150,000 rubles - a total of 265,000 rubles was withdrawn ... "

Why are more stolen from Sberbank customers?

A large number of ATMs and customers leads to the fact that they often become victims of fraudsters, but there are other objective reasons.

It would seem that the chip on the card should protect against skimmers, because it is more difficult to copy. All cards in Russia are equipped with chips, but not all ATMs read them. In most Sberbank ATMs, you can just withdraw money from a duplicate card without a chip. Even if it is not possible to withdraw money, scammers can use a duplicate card to connect their phone number to mobile bank, access the internet bank and one-time passwords to confirm transactions.

Cases of skimming have recently become more frequent and clients of all banks become victims. However, access to the Sberbnka card gives access to all customer accounts and allows you not only to reset the card, but also to withdraw money from the deposit, savings book and credit card.

How to protect yourself from skimming?

  • Choose ATMs in a bank branch, and not in a dark corner of a store or on the street.
  • Inspect the card reader and keyboard and refuse the operation if something is loose, traces of glue are visible, or the appearance of the ATM is suspicious.
  • Cover the keypad with your hand when entering the PIN code.
  • Read about how to identify an ATM with a skimmer.
  • At the first suspicion that the card has been compromised, call the bank and block the card.

What to do if your money is stolen?

If the money has already been stolen, after blocking the card, it’s faster to run to the bank and write a statement.

Will the money be returned?

In most cases, Sberbank returns money if you are a victim of skimmers, and you still have the original card. The main thing is to apply for a refund immediately. But keep in mind that the actual return period may take from 45 days to six months.

Phishing and social engineering

A classic example of phishing is when you receive an e-mail from a bank, follow the link and you get to a completely different site, which is very similar to the bank's site. The login and password immediately go to the attackers, and the money flows into their pockets. The internet bank login page can be spoofed if your computer or smartphone is infected with viruses.

However, today's customers of Sberbank suffer more not from hackers who create fake pages, but from those who swindle data to access the Internet bank by cunning. For example, you may receive an SMS about blocking the card. You make a phone call from SMS, and a scammer picks up the phone and asks you to enter a one-time password to confirm your identity.

Another common situation: a buyer with Avito wants to send you an advance payment to a Sberbank card. You report the card number and its validity period, after a while the buyer calls back and asks for the code from SMS, citing various reasons - the money went to the wrong place, he withdrew instead of sending and wants to return ...

"I decided to log in to Sberbank Online, but I couldn't log in, because Sberbank apologized for technical work and promised to resume work in the near future. At 13.30 I logged into Sberbank Online again. This time everything was fine, I received SMS about successful login, but a window opened with a request for my personal data (due to a failure in the bank's security system) I entered, because everything happened on the official website of Sberbank. And then something started. A window opened with a request cancel the operation (I was sent an SMS with a password to cancel) I wanted to call Sberbank, but a man called me, introduced himself as an employee of Sberbank and said that there was a failure and you need to follow the instructions that appear on the screen and SMS messages coming in. Since one corresponded to the other , I entered the password to cancel the operation. The window fell out again, SMS came again, this happened three more times. Unable to stand it, I left Sberbank Online, tried to log in again, but could not. Then I called the bank employee who called me, but he the phone was blocked. I checked the phone with the Sberbank phone, and it turned out that it differs from the Sberbank one by one digit. Sberbank has a zero after six fives, but here at the beginning. I got through to Sberbank and then they killed me on the spot. ABOUT 700 THOUSAND RUBLES LEAKED FROM MY CARD!"

Why does this happen more often in Sberbank?

A large number of clients who did not choose the bank themselves - pensioners, payroll clients. Often these people are not very technically savvy, which means it is easier to confuse them in order to get the right information. But there is another reason.

Knowing the card number and the phone number to which it is linked, you can register again with Sberbank Online - the fraudster only has to receive codes from SMS. You can create a payment template and withdraw money from it without SMS confirmation. It is especially dangerous that through Sberbank online scammers get access to all accounts, and not just card ones.

How not to fall for the bait?

In order not to become a victim of scammers, you need to be very careful and suspicious:

  • When entering the Internet bank, pay attention to the correct spelling of the site address and a secure connection - https://online.sberbank.ru/
  • If, when entering the Internet bank, you need to enter something other than your login and password / one-time password, this is not the Sberbank website.
  • Do not tell anyone the codes from SMS, no matter what they say on the other end of the wire. Sberbank never requires codes to cancel or cancel an operation - there is simply no such possibility.
  • Do not tell your card number to strangers, and do not tell anyone the expiration date ever - to send a transfer from card to card, you do not need its expiration date.
  • If you get a call from Sberbank, tighten up - it's your "privilege" to call the call center and wait on the wire. Sberbank calls only if it wants to sell you something.

What to do?

Block the card, write a statement to the bank and the police.

Will the money be returned?

If you yourself reported the code from SMS to the attackers, then you gave them your consent to write off. In this case, Sberbank will not return the money.

It is enough to know the card number

The card number, its expiration date and CVV code allow you to pay for purchases via the Internet and make Money transfers through dedicated services. The card number can be compromised, for example, when paying in a cafe, when the waiter took your card behind the bar to pay. People easily communicate Sberbank card numbers to each other to send transfers from card to card, for example, when making purchases on Avito, From hand to hand or on forums. If you used an ATM with a skimmer installed (see the first paragraph), the card data will also fall into the hands of hackers.

Knowing only the card number, attackers can pick up the expiration date and make a purchase on some sites where a CVV code is not required (for example, Amazon.com), in addition, the code on the back of the card is not required for small payments, for example, to pay for a cell phone. connections. Not small amounts are spent on the phone numbers of Beeline subscribers from Sberbank cards.

Most online stores accept payments through the 3D-secure protocol. In this case, the operation must be confirmed with a one-time password from SMS. But first, it is required not everywhere. Secondly, a number of cases have been recorded when attackers somehow obtained one-time passwords. Either a leak on the side of the bank, or on the side of the operator ...

“My story is this: I wrote an ad for the sale of a baby stroller on a free website. Today a young man called and said that he was ready to buy this product, but he would pay by transfer to a Sberbank card. He asked me to dictate my card number, since she gave her husband’s card number , there was about 500 rubles, so they just told the card number, when an SMS came to my husband’s phone stating that the amount of 7 rubles 50 kopecks was withdrawn through RUS MOSCOW BEELINE MTOPUP. Naturally, I immediately guessed what was the matter, but after 15 seconds 100 rubles were gone, then again 200 and again 100. So we have 75 rubles left on the card!”

Why is Sberbank more dangerous?

Sberbank customers suffer more often due to the fact that it is very convenient to transfer payments from a card to a Sberbank card without a commission on the card number. Via internet banking or ATM. Therefore, the card number is disclosed to each potential buyer.

How to keep card details private?

  • Do not disclose your card number to third parties.
  • Do not make purchases in suspicious online stores, so as not to compromise the number.
  • Block the card if it is lost.
  • Set limits on expenditure operations on the Internet and a ban on payments abroad.

If the money was taken

Write a statement to the bank and to the police.

chances of a return

If there was a transaction with 3D-secure, the bank will not voluntarily return the money. If not, most likely the decision will be in your favor.

Mobile banking is a black hole

Here we will focus only on Sberbank.

The Sberbank mobile bank package is an SMS informing about all transactions plus the ability to send short commands to special numbers for making payments (for a phone, transfer from card to card, etc.). The economy package only informs about entering Sberbank online, sends one-time passwords and also makes it possible to make payments via SMS, but with a higher commission. Connecting a mobile bank is a prerequisite for accessing remote banking services (to Internet banking, in other words). Another mandatory condition is the presence of a card and the conclusion of an UDBO (universal agreement banking services) that links all your accounts and binds them to a mobile phone number. This is where miracles begin.

Option 1

Another number may be linked to the mobile bank - not at all the one indicated in the written application or differing from it by one digit. As a rule, here the error of the employee is accidental or deliberate.

Having become the “happy owner” of someone’s mobile bank, a person can gradually withdraw money to his phone. And the owner of the account will not even suspect this, because he does not receive SMS messages.

Perhaps, when you received the card, you did not write an application for connecting a mobile bank. And yet it was connected to a number unknown to you, not without the participation of bank employees.

If there is written confirmation that the number turned out to be different, the money will be returned to you, but you will have to prove it.

It often happens that SMS came and came, and then once - and stopped. Program crash or? In any case, a reason to be wary and go to the bank.

Option 2

A second number can be linked to the mobile bank. You can connect the second number through an ATM, for example, using a copy of the card (see the first paragraph). In this case, the first - the main number will no longer receive messages.

Option 3

You changed your phone number or the operator transferred it to another subscriber, but you did not write an application to disconnect the old one and connect the new number. Or the employee accepted the application for disconnection, but forgot to press the key.

Perhaps you closed all the cards and lost your phone, and a year later you got a Sberbank card again. This is where the old number surfaced, which you have already forgotten about. Withdrawing money through old numbers linked to a mobile bank is quite common.

Please note that when changing your phone number, you need to write 2 applications! To disconnect the old and connect the new. Otherwise, up to 8 phone numbers can be linked to the mobile bank!

The sad news is that the bank will not return the money withdrawn in this way. The only option is if you can prove that the application for disconnection really was, but the staff did not turn off the number.

Why does this happen more often with Sberbank customers?

SMS informing and mobile banking are arranged differently in different banks, but Sberbank customers suffer more often for several reasons:

  • It is very easy to make payments for large amounts through mobile banking. In this case, you do not even need to know the card details.
  • It is difficult to resist the temptation to withdraw money from someone else's card if you receive SMS messages day and night, even if you did not initially plan to rob someone.
  • Employees receive bonuses for connecting additional services, so they also connect a mobile bank to those who did not ask.
  • Mobile banking is connected to everyone and everyone, although it is mainly used by scammers.

New trend - SIM card replacement

Your SIM stops working, money disappears from your accounts, and then it turns out that someone got a new SIM card in one of the offices of Beeline, MTS or another operator ...

Sometimes attackers already have your passport data (the leak may be in the communication salon), card number (skimming) and access to Sberbank online, sometimes they use a mobile bank to withdraw what they can through it, then connect the Internet bank and withdraw rest.

Money is withdrawn very quickly through services for transferring from card to card third party bank(it is enough for a fraudster to know the card number and choose the expiration date), to a prepaid Corn card (you need to know all the card details), to a Sberbank card (you need to have or restore data to enter Sberbank online).

Interestingly, Sberbank blocks the card only the next day. Of course, there is a huge hole on the side of mobile operators - they reissue cards using fake passports, powers of attorney, pension certificates without a statement, without trying to contact the real owner of the SIM card. Yes, and employees are often involved. But Sberbank is not without holes.

“They stole money from the wife’s card. Everything is like the same poor fellows: someone comes to the mobile operator and changes the SIM card for himself. Then the person loses contact with the bank, while the attackers transfer money to Corn (in my case, to Novosibirsk). the next (!!!) day, Sberbank sends an SMS that the account is blocked. But there is no money on it anymore. According to Sberbank, the attackers knew the login password."

Why Sberbank?

  • When replacing a SIM card, the phone number remains the same, but the IMSI code of the SIM card changes. By law, banks must track it, but this process works very crookedly - they block access to Sberbank Online for those who have not changed the SIM card, or they block it 3 months after the replacement, and the number of frauds associated with replacing the SIM card is growing rapidly. There is an opinion that checking the IMSI code in Sberbank is simply disabled, while it works fine in a number of other banks.
  • For some reason, the rapid withdrawal of funds from all accounts in several transactions does not arouse suspicion in the bank either and does not lead to timely blocking of the card. This suggests that the anti-fraud system is working very poorly.

What to do?

The victim's procedure is standard - blocking the card, applying to the bank, and then, most likely, to the court - to the mobile operator and to the bank.

Will the money be returned?

They rarely return voluntarily, the practice is contradictory through the court. If fraudsters used your login and password to access the Internet bank, then the money will most likely not be returned.

The article used real reviews of Sberbank clients published by them on Banki.ru.

More and more people are starting to use plastic cards. It is known that fraud always accompanies progress in the development of electronic technologies, it also develops and improves. There are more and more ways for scammers to steal savings from the cards of unsuspecting people.

8 new ways how scammers withdraw money from the card

Let's analyze 8 ways how scammers withdraw money from the card

1. An easy-to-perform and long-known fraud with plastic cards is to close the opening for the exit of banknotes with tape. This technique works very simply: you try to withdraw money from the card, enter the pin code, the amount to be received, but the money does not appear. Having fiddled around a bit, lamenting the faulty ATM, you go home with the intention of dealing with this outrageous phenomenon in the morning and presenting relevant claims to the bank employees. After you leave, the attacker removes the tape from the ATM exit tray and takes the money. Of course, this method can be carried out mainly at night. Therefore, it is better to withdraw money during the day, or carefully check the ATM for the presence of foreign elements, such as adhesive tape in particular. If nothing is found, and there is still no money, then you can safely go to swear with the bank employees, since in this case this is definitely their flaw.

2. The second way of fraud with plastic cards is offline fraud. It can also include theft after debiting funds. Dishonest employees of a supermarket, store or cafe can withdraw money from you twice. That is, when you pay, they can swipe through the card reader twice. It is advisable to activate the service of notification of the movement of funds by SMS in order to see all write-offs of funds. In case of loss of a plastic card, be sure to block it, otherwise scammers will be able to easily take advantage of the opportunity that has arisen. They can pay with your card in a store, for example. After blocking, the card will be reissued, and it is better to receive it not by mail, but in person at the bank. If you opt for mail, your funds will again be at risk of being scammed.

3. Phishing has become very popular.- This is a type of fraud with plastic cards, in which ill-wishers find out the data on your card in a variety of fraudulent ways. Phishing techniques are different: a phone call supposedly from bank employees, an email asking you to clarify this or that information. You may be convinced that there is a special procedure in place to prevent fraud, or on Friday evening (when the bank is already closed) you will be told that suspicious activity is taking place on your card and you need to make sure that you are the owner in order to further suppress possible unauthorized transactions. Do not be naive and gullible, do not disclose confidential information! Bank employees will never ask you about this, they may notify you by phone that you need to contact the bank, but nothing more. As for the pin code, no one has the right to ask you at all, even employees when they personally contact the bank. The most reliable way would be to remember the unique code without writing it down anywhere, and if you already wrote it down, then in no case store it with the card.

4. Non-electronic phishing. How do scammers withdraw money from the card in this case? Very in a tricky way! When you pay with a card, for example, in a store or salon, by entering a pin code. On the one hand, it is convenient to pay immediately from the card without withdrawing money in advance, but on the other hand, it is not safe. Fraudsters can copy your data from the magnetic strip and immediately write it down an identification number. Based on the stolen data, a new already fake card is created, through which funds are easily withdrawn from the card of the real owner. It is difficult to recognize this type of fraud, so the only recommendation would be to pay with a card only at trustworthy outlets.

5. Illegal activities on the Internet. It is quite easy to become a victim of plastic card fraud if you are shopping online using a card. Attackers can intercept funds right during the payment process. Limit yourself, despite the convenience and popularity of this method of payment, at least in the purchase of expensive goods. Be most vigilant if you make a payment on an unfamiliar site, use virtual card in this case. On such a card, it is possible to set a limit that cannot be exceeded in case of fraud on it. It is advisable to connect the card to the Secure Code service, then in order to carry out any operation online, you will need to enter the code from the SMS message that you receive on your phone. Thus, plastic card fraud will be very difficult. In the event that you make a payment on a foreign language site, it is better to refrain from such an action altogether, since you may not understand all the terms of payment, apart from possible frauds.

6. Skimming is an equally popular type of plastic card fraud. Skimmers are such electronic devices that are installed at terminals and ATMs, where they copy card data. After that, attackers can issue a clone card, from which money is withdrawn, just like from your personal original card. For more security, keep in mind all the expenses on the card, check the balance to be sure that you are the only one using the funds from the card.

7. They can also cheat by looking at how you type a pin code, or apply a special glue, which will leave traces of pressing the buttons with numbers, or install a miniature camera on the ATM. Knowing the pin code, fraudsters can make unauthorized money transfers and payments. Therefore, it is important to ensure that no one sees how you type it. You should also not withdraw money in poor lighting, in an unfamiliar place.

8. ATMs are susceptible to the virus! This applies to new ways of fraud. In our country has not yet spread, be vigilant! A virus in an ATM monitors all transactions and reads valuable information. It's quite difficult to develop. Firstly, it is necessary to use a special operating system, and secondly, it is necessary to communicate with banks through secure systems. So far, this method is not popular in our country due to the complexity of execution. So you don't have to worry too much about it for now.

Plastic Card Security Tips:

Pay attention to which card you are the owner of - magnetic or with a chip. The last option involves the protection of hacks, card cloning, etc. The task for fraudsters is complicated by the fact that, unlike a magnetic card on which data is applied, a chip card involves constant data exchange during each operation with an ATM.
recognize that the risk of losing money due to fraud is always present for all cardholders. Carefully study all the main methods of criminals to reduce the risk of being deceived.

Who is warned is armed, be vigilant and careful!

The number of unauthorized withdrawals from bank cards in the period from 2015 to 2016 increased by more than 5 times, AlfaStrakhovanie informs. Can scammers withdraw money from the card, knowing the card number, and how to protect themselves from this, experts say.

Common methods of unauthorized access to the contents of a bank card

A significant number of thefts of funds from cards occurs with the connivance of their owners. This takes place, according to experts, due to our gullibility and insufficient knowledge of the precautions required when using remote access to bank accounts.

Method one - a message about blocking the card

How fraudsters can withdraw money from the card using this method: the attackers send an SMS to the owner with a notification about her imaginary blocking.

To solve the alleged problem:

  • the user will be asked to send a message;
  • offer to call the specified number;
  • sometimes the fraudster calls back himself, introduces himself as a bank employee and asks to provide the data he needs or to perform some manipulations under his leadership: send a message with the text prompted by him, dictate the received code, etc.

The data of interest to fraudsters is the card number, its expiration date, the name of the owner, CVV and CVC codes. Do not fall for the trick of intruders, do not tell them anything and do not follow any instructions. It is better to call the bank yourself at the phone number indicated on the plastic card.

A phone call can also come without a previous SMS, for example, in response to your advertisement for the sale of an unnecessary baby stroller on one of the sites. A person who introduces himself as a potential buyer may ask to tell him the number and expiration date of the card, ostensibly to transfer money to it.

Method two - viruses

Another answer to the question of how fraudsters can withdraw money from a bank card without the knowledge of the owner may be related to the use of specially created software products. They are one of the main threats to owners of mobile devices, according to RIA Novosti with reference to Kaspersky Lab analysts.

A malicious Trojan can:

  • replace the dialog box on the smartphone screen, and the user agrees to a completely different operation that he planned;
  • copy and send to scammers entered passwords;
  • intercept and hide incoming from payment systems SMS, send response messages to the address of the bank's mobile service without the knowledge of the user.

The solution in this case is to install an antivirus on your smartphone or tablet, obtain software only from trusted sources, and be attentive to incoming emails and messages, especially those containing links and attachments.

Method three - skimming

Skimming is the secret reading of card data. To do this, attackers install linings that are invisible to the eyes of a layman on ATMs.

At the same time, fraudsters can try to get a PIN code using hidden video surveillance equipment, just peeping from the side, and even stealing the contents of wastebaskets near ATMs with receipts thrown there.

When using the card, experts advise not to throw away the received receipt near the ATM, but when entering the PIN code, cover the terminal keyboard with your palm.

Method four - wireless terminal

In many stores today you can see PayWave and PayPass technology terminals, for payment through which it is enough just to swipe a bank card over the device. Not only a retail outlet can own such a device, but also a fraudster standing next to you in line or in transport.

Journalists from Komsomolskaya Pravda experimentally tested whether fraudsters can withdraw money from a card in a purse or clothing pocket. The study showed that such a transaction is possible at a distance of several centimeters from the card. Neither the leather of the bag, nor the fabric of the clothes are an obstacle in this case.

Experts advise wearing a card in a shielding shell - foil, case or wallet made of metallized material, etc.

In addition to these methods, there are other tricks of scammers. So, knowing only the card number, an attacker can try to pick up the expiration date empirically. This data is sometimes enough to pay in some online stores.

How to return money stolen from a bank card

If it becomes necessary to resolve the issue of how to return the money withdrawn by fraudsters from a bank card, the expert community advises:

  • first of all, block the card by calling the number indicated on it;
  • request from the bank a decryption of all transactions carried out in recent days;
  • get details from the mobile operator, which will show the absence of an SMS with a special code confirming consent to the transfer of money;
  • write an application to the bank for the return of funds withdrawn from the account without the authorization of the owner;
  • if the bank does not agree to return the funds, the victim has the right to write an application to law enforcement agencies and submit statement of claim to court.

If the bank card account was insured by an insurance company, the user affected by the actions of fraudsters will be able to receive insurance compensation.

How often do such situations happen: employees from the bank call mobile phone to “unblock the card”, and then it turns out that they were scammers, and almost all funds were deducted from the card? Fortunately, this does not happen often, but still no one is immune from such force majeure. Therefore, you need to know how criminals deceive their victims: using phishing, scamming, social engineering, and simply using the user's old SIM card. The main thing is to remember that money can be returned. To do this, you need to make a statement at the bank branch, and then contact the police.

Even the largest banking organizations- such as Sberbank or VTB-24 - are not able to give their customers one hundred percent protection. And the point is not at all that banks introduce insufficient control over the movement of finances or that they are irresponsible about this. The fact is that in most cases the victims themselves are to blame for what happened.

Fraudsters almost always "play" with their victims, creating critical situations in which the victim has no time to think or stop. This is the basis of the so-called social engineering, with the help of which up to 95% of all fraudulent operations are performed. In the remaining 5% of cases, the reason for a successful fraud is simple forgetfulness.

That is why it is necessary to distinguish between fraud based on social engineering and fraud without any special stories and fiction. We will do so, considering each method separately.

Fraud with bank cards through mobile banking

Mobile banking is a way to interact with the bank on your behalf on a remote basis. In other words, with the help of a mobile bank, you can not only transfer finances, but also open new accounts, loans and deposits, convert currencies, etc. It is not surprising that fraudsters primarily seek to gain access to a mobile bank - after all, in this way they get almost unlimited freedom of action.

Fraud becomes possible because the mobile bank is bound to any mobile number. But if the owner of the number changed the SIM card, while forgetting to re-bind the mobile bank, this number will go to other people. Cellular operators thus save money by selling old numbers that have not been used for a long time to new customers.

  • Finding out if the Mobile Bank is connected to the number is very simple - you can, for example, send an SMS to 900 for Sberbank. So scammers immediately understand whether the sim card they bought is tied to a mobile bank. To save time, scammers buy hundreds of SIM cards from third-party services like Avito;
  • As soon as the scammer sees that the number is tied to someone's mobile bank, he begins to look for information about his victim in every possible way - i.e. those who initially used mobile banking. A criminal can, for example, by sending an SMS to number 900, find out the details of the card;
  • As soon as the criminal has at least the card number and the name of its owner, he can make purchases on the Internet at the expense of his victim. To do this, he only needs to select confirmation of payment on the answer from SMS.

Mobile banking demo scam (phishing)

In this case, the perpetrator is targeting mass mailing, because phishing, by definition, only works on a large scale. The essence of the deception is as follows: the fraudster forges either the official page of the bank or the data entry window. When the victim, without noticing the fake, enters his data and clicks the "Next" button, instead of completing the operation as usual, he will see a page refresh. This is because all the entered data from fake sites is downloaded to the scammer.

As soon as the criminal thus receives data for entering Internet banking or even a mobile application (for example, Sberbank Online), it will not be difficult for him to withdraw all the money from the victim's account.

Fraud with skimming and viruses

Skimming is the installation of special reading equipment on ATMs. After installing the skimming machine, the magnetic stripe of any card entered into the ATM will be stored in the device's memory. After a while, the fraudster will remove the skimming machine from the ATM and transfer the magnetic stripe data to the "plastic".

Since terminals and ATMs do not look at the design of the card, the main thing for them is the information on the magnetic stripe. This means that a fraudster with copied plastic will be able to easily withdraw funds from any terminal, and he will also be able to easily pay for offline purchases.

Viruses are the least common way to steal money, but no less dangerous. Its essence boils down to the following: on the phones of the whole country, under the pretext of a “new free program or "hit game 2019" virus is being downloaded. This virus literally accumulates all confidential information on the phone in just 10-20 minutes, including passwords, logins, account details, etc. As soon as the phone connects to the Internet, all this information is sent to the scammer.

What to do if scammers withdrew money from the card? How to get your money back?

We have already figured out how scammers withdraw money from a bank card through a mobile phone. However, in a force majeure situation, it is rarely clear what needs to be done. First of all, you need to remember that only the bank and the police can help in this situation. No private offices are capable of catching a criminal in such a situation without deceiving anyone and without violating the law.

Follow instructions:

  1. Call to hotline your bank. Many rooms serve customers around the clock, almost all do it for free. Hotlines of major banks: Sberbank - 8 800 555 555 0; UniCredit - 8 800 700 10 20; RosselkhozBank - 8 800 200 02 90; VTB-24 - 8 800 100 24 24;
  2. Briefly explain to the call center operator what the problem is, ask them to block your bank cards. To do this, be prepared to give your passport data, as well as answer the security question;
  3. Come to the branch of your bank, taking your passport with you and, preferably, bank agreement. Ask for a form to file a statement of disagreement with the transaction;
  4. Make a statement in two copies. The date of application is the starting point for settling the issue out of court, as required by the Arbitration Procedure Code of the Russian Federation;
  5. Try to give the bank all sorts of documentary evidence of the fact of fraud. For example, provide screenshots of the correspondence with the perpetrator, point out the discrepancy between the withdrawal address and the address of your residence. You can also request CCTV footage - in case the money was withdrawn by the criminal through an ATM;
  6. Within the period specified in the application, the bank must make a decision on compensation or non-compensation of damage. If the bank does not want to compensate for the damage, you should apply to the court, noting in the claim the complete inaction of the bank. Do not forget to show the judge a copy of the statement of disagreement with the transaction. In addition, before going to court, report to the police and initiate proceedings on the fact of theft.

What are the chances that the stolen money will be returned to me?

In fact, the chances of success directly depend on how much the victim tries to secure legal and legal protection. If, for example, the only thing the victim of deception did was contact the police, the chances of success will be low: the police really try to investigate cases only if the amount of theft is at least 30-40 thousand rubles.

Therefore, the chances of returning the stolen need to be increased. You can do this in the following way:

  • Compose a claim appeal to the bank about disagreement with the transaction. The application must be drawn up in two copies, and yours must be signed by a bank employee. Attach to the application all documentary evidence of the illegality of the operation;
  • Do not apply to the court within the time limit set by the application. The maximum term for compiling a response from the bank is 90 days, but, as a rule, it is limited to 30 days;
  • In parallel with filing an application with the bank, contact the police and start the paperwork. During the investigation, the police, along with banking service security, they will check in detail the history of transactions, the addressee of the payment, and also study the reputation of the applicant (the police may even call relatives and acquaintances of the applicant to obtain information);
  • If the answer from the bank is negative, draw up a second claim letter, in which you should argue the illegality of the refusal. At this stage, you can already go to court. The chances of winning are extremely high. In addition, the bank's management, as soon as they become aware of the filing of a lawsuit, will try to resolve the conflict without litigation.

How not to become a victim of scammers?

There are a few simple rules, following which will protect the citizen from possible fraud as much as possible:

  • Do not download software from third party resources. Programs, mobile applications, media files should be downloaded only from the official websites of distributors;
  • Use only those ATMs that are located in crowded and well-monitored places - in bank branches, in administrative buildings, and so on. So you protect yourself from skimming;
  • Check all downloaded files through antivirus;
  • Before entering any data on the site, check its email address: if it does not match the real (real) address of the site, you have phishing content in front of you;
  • Remember - a bank employee will never demand from you either a CVV code or a pin code from a card. If someone, under the guise of help, asks you to give this data, you are in front of a scammer.

In addition, if you suddenly “draw” a dangerous situation in which there is no time to think - do not take any action (for example, you are told that your card is supposedly blocked and you need to urgently send a reply SMS to unlock it), try to check the information.
