Creative competition for financial literacy of the population. Check your level of financial literacy

“Holding Financial Literacy Week for children and youth has become a good tradition. We have been conducting it for the fourth year as part of the Project for Improving Financial Literacy of the Population. Each such event carries not only an educational and social mission, but is also a contribution to the development of the Russian economy. In particular, thanks to the regular holding of the Weeks, children, youth and their parents learn a responsible attitude towards finances.”

Sergey Storchak,
Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation

Throughout the country, games, lectures, master classes, intellectual quizzes, performances, quests, and creative Olympiads were held in kindergartens, schools, and universities. This year, Financial Literacy Week took place on the eve of the FIFA World Cup, which was held in Russia for the first time. This grandiose sporting event set the mood for the entire Week. One of the most exciting and popular activities of the all-Russian event was the game “Finball” - a team intellectual quiz that allowed schoolchildren to test their knowledge in the field of financial literacy and demonstrate their erudition in the field of football.

On May 19, as part of the Family Festival, a ceremony was held to sum up the results of the Financial Literacy Week for Children and Youth 2018. As noted by Andrey Bokarev, Director of the Department of International Financial Relations of the Russian Ministry of Finance, Project Director: “It is no coincidence that the results of the IV Financial Literacy Week were summed up at the Family Financial Festival. One of the key messages of the Week to the audience is the thesis: “Financial literacy begins in the family.” We understand that without the support of the family, the efforts of educational institutions in this process will not be enough. Meanwhile, as our surveys show, only in 30% of Russian families do parents talk to their children about the family budget and explain to them the rules of responsible financial behavior.”

Andrey Bokarev also noted that the geography of the Week has expanded significantly over the four years it has been held. In 2015, 10 Russian regions were involved in the events, and by 2018, Financial Literacy Week acquired an all-Russian scale. In terms of the number of participants, the Russian Financial Literacy Week for Children and Youth is a leader among countries conducting similar educational events.
