In other words, the authors paraphrase Tolstoy’s aphorism as follows: “All well-adapted systems are similar, all maladapted systems fail to cope with adaptation, each in its own way,” and add: “It seems paradoxical, but when the difference between systems increases, they simultaneously become more correlated."
